1st Nursery

Arden’s pillowcase was dirty, so I went to the linen closet to grab another and spotted one of the cases my Grannie had embroidered.  I thought this pink one would be perfect on her bed and it was!  Charlie the tiny Teddy bear agrees!

Does anybody actually hand embroider borders on pillowcases anymore?  I think my Mother in law does, and I’d like to try someday.

I have others she made with elaborate flowers and crocheted edges, but I like this little cross-stitch design quite a bit.

While I was in Arden’s room taking pictures of the pillowcase, I thought I would share a project I did before the blog – the seat cushion I made for the bench that’s in the cute little nook in her room.

I think this was the first time I’ve used corded piping and overall it turned out really well.  I only made the zipper go from corner to corner on the short edge and if I ever do it again I’ll be sure to extend it around the corner a bit.  I really had to wrestle my 4″ foam into this and ripped a few stitches in the process.

This little bench is looking a bit barren because it used to be where all her bears and other stuffies sat until I moved the bookcase into her room from the new nursery and put the stuffies up there.  I think I’ll make a couple of pillows to make it more cozy – I can just picture her a little older sitting there leaned into the corner reading by the light from the window.  I would have LOVED something like this in my room when I was a kid – I spent a ton of time on my bed or in the Lazy-Boy reading.
Arden has been making use of it in a different way lately – she drags the cushion off the bench and onto the floor and then gets her pillow, pink blankie, and Charlie and camps out on her “cot”.  Just one more delay tactic in the bedtime routine.  I have no problem with her camping out on the floor; I just tell her she has to stay on the cot or in her bed.  So far, that hasn’t worked out so hot – she gets up and starts messing around in her room or trying to take off her diaper.
It’s just a phase, right?  She’ll go back to just laying down and going to sleep like nothing again?  Right?  Please!?
