Nursery Prep: Crib Skirt

Another item checked off my list for nursery prep – I finished up the crib skirt today.  I cut a piece of muslin the inside dimensions of my crib, adding 1″ for seam allowances.  This measurement was 27 x 51.  Then I cut 13 1/2″ strips of the skirt material and finished the bottom and sides with a 1/2″ double fold hem.

I added a grosgrain ribbon edging 1″ from the bottom hem with ric rac down the middle.  I knew this detail would be hidden by the bottom rail of the crib with the mattress set for the hightest position, but I didn’t want the skirt to be so long it dragged on the ground once we start lowering the crib.

I gathered the panels – they are each roughly 1.5 the length of each side, so not a super tight gather.  It hangs pretty nicely and I like that this fabric is different than the ones I used in the quilt.  I didn’t want to get into overkill on those fabrics, and this brings in the black, white, and the aqua colors all at once.  It’s one of the fabrics designed specifically for JoAnn’s.  I had bought the rest of the bolt and it worked out exactly that I have only a 2″ strip remaining.
