Reindeer Cupcakes

If you’re thinking the timing of this post is a bit odd, then you’re right.  Growing up, we always did a crafty project after Thanksgiving dinner and I mentioned to my Mom that we didn’t get around to doing that at home this year.  So she gathered up all the fixings for this cute project for while we visited them in Florida.  Arden helped make about six or so before she petered out and I finished the rest.

It’s from a little handout at Dollar Tree (no, this isn’t a sponsored post but my Mom finds all sorts of cool stuff there).  It lists name brands for products they sell, but here’s what you’ll need in generic terms:

  • Cupcake mix
  • Brown frosting
  • Mini pretzels (I had some teensy ones from the plane and liked those even better!)
  • Tootsie Roll Midgees
  • Vanilla Wafers
  • Holiday Sixlets Candies
  • Cupcake/Muffin pan
  • Muffin cups
  1. Bake the cupcakes according to package directions.
  2. Let cool 15-20 minutes.
  3. Cover cupcake with frosting.
  4. For the antlers, press to mini pretzels at the top of the frosted cupcake.
  5. For the ears, take a midgee and shape into two ears, place at the base of each pretzel (for the teeny pretzels I used quartered midgees).
  6. For the nose, place a vanilla wafer at the bottom of the cupcake; dab frosting to adhere a red sixlet to the wafer.
  7. For the eyes, place a white sixlet below each ear.
  8. Thin a small amount of the frosting and dab onto the white sixlets with a toothpick to create pupils.
Enjoy!  The girls and the rest of us sure did!

Hadley wore more than she ate, but she had fun!
