Sinister Swarm Washi Dress… and I Met Rae!

I made something for me!!  I hopped on the Washi Dress bandwagon with both feet and I wish I hadn’t waited so long!  I had read review after review stating that the fit was very flattering on all body types.  I wasn’t sure it could handle my pooch (pregnancy did a number on my abs, leaving me with diastasis recti).  I think it’s very flattering, if I do say so myself.

The fabric is Sinister Swarm in blueberry by Anna Maria Horner from her Field Study line purchased online from Fabric.com.  I was intending to purchase voile, but somehow ended up with quilting cotton in my cart.  Nevertheless, it’s beautiful and even the heavier hand drapes pretty nicely.

And the icing on the proverbial cake was that Rae herself was on hand while I made my way through my first Washi!  She and Karen of One Girl Circus host a monthly crafty meetup and at long last I was able to attend one.  She helped make sure my bust darts were done properly and otherwise was very fun and friendly.  I hope to be able to go to more but they’re in Ann Arbor which is a two hour drive, making for a late evening.  If I go again, I’ll go with less ambitious sewing plans so I can socialize a bit more.
That’s me at Pink Castle Fabrics in front of the Wall of Washi in my not-quite-complete-but-wearable Washi.  Rae had left just moments prior, so I’ll have to go back and get a picture with her.  Follow me on instagram @jennuinelife to see more behind the scenes in my day-to-day.
My little photographer
This is how I got shots of me in my Washi – Arden makes quite a good photographer!  (And she’s pretty cute, too!)
I’ve got plans for a tunic length Washi, and I might play around with the proportions and hemline a bit for another dress.  Have you made a Washi?  Did you love it too?

The dress looks beautiful on you, Jenn! I love your fabric choice with the butterflies. No, I haven’t made one of these dresses but I am tempted by yours.

Jenn, I went to the linking site on the diastasis recti. I have a friend who developed this with her third pregnancy but I didn’t know the correct name for the diagnosis. She had a surgery to correct the problem and all is well now. (Hers was pretty severe. She normally weighs 95 pounds and is just under 5 feet tall and her baby was 21 inches long and 9 pounds.)

Cute dress. That might even look good on me. I should give it a try. And I love that fabric.
