It’s a super quick sew – I love that! For the body I used the same Lisette cotton lawn I used for the second version of my LOL Swing Top I made for Hadley. The yoke is an embroidered cotton that I dyed for a couple of dresses I made for another pattern testing gig which I can’t share just yet. I was using what I had on hand and I think the combination works pretty well. The lawn is very light and airy, so much so that this will be my new lovely beach cover up as it’s also very sheer. Or maybe over a pair of skinnies?
I gotta say, this one had me really worried that I was going to end up with a muumuu. When the *ahem* “girls” are on the robust side and you wear things that basically drape from that point, it can be really unflattering. Right up until I hemmed the bottom, I was certain I was going to be shortening it to tunic length, which is an option on the pattern. Fortunately with the extra weight and structure of the hem, it pulled the drape down enough to work really well, in my opinion.
While I’m not so jazzed about the size being XXL, the sizing for this is based on bust and high bust, so it’s understandable. I’ll just translate XXL into “extra-extra-lovely” in my head, okay?
I know I look sort of stern or angry in these photos. I’m going to have to get better about modeling if I keep on making clothes for myself, which is my intent. It’s difficult not to feel silly while standing in your backyard in front of your storage shed with a camera on a tripod and running back and forth to take timed groups of photos of yourself. I’d get a remote, but the version of my camera doesn’t work with wireless remotes. Should have paid attention to that when we were investigating features…
I think I see some more Sally Dresses or Tops in my future! Watch for the pattern release, Rae and her assistants promise that it will be very soon which is why we’re permitted to share with y’all right away. There might be revisions based upon the feedback from testers, but I didn’t recommend any significant changes based on my version.

From the time I was 14 until I was in my 40s, I made nearly all of my clothes. Teaching full time, kids, bad eyes and the prices at TJ Maxx kept me from sewing much. Now I mostly make things for the house.
This is a lovely dress! I’ve sewn up something similar in a tunic — I tend to wear it with a belt over skinny jeans and a cardigan in the winter. Rae has another home run here, I imagine. 🙂
The selfies are SO hard for me!!! Do you read LLadybird’s blog? I love her selfies. They’re always so fun like she’s aware of how totally awkward it is and she just goes with it and goofs off some.
