Kids Clothes Week: Day 1 – The Soleil Dress

Allright… I’m cheating a little by posting this dress as Day 1 of KCW, but it seems perfectly fair when this adorable little dress can be sewn within the hour guideline.  For real!  I tested the Soleil Dress and was blown away at how quickly it came together.
I am friends with Lauren Dahl, the designer behind Selvage Designs and the Soleil Dress, but I will always give my honest opinion about what I share here.  This dress is one of those designs that has great impact but is very quick and fun to sew.  The pattern at testing stage was so impressive and the small changes she’s integrated into the final pattern have truly made it one of the most professional and well thought out patterns I have in my collection.  It fits girls 12 months through 12 years, so you get a lot of sizes out of one pattern.

I mean – how cute is a little peek of back on the sweet girl?

Arden loved this dress the instant I began working on it!  She normally hates fittings, especially if they are for a garment only partially complete, but she happily tried the bodice on for me and didn’t want to take it off.  I call that high praise from my finicky five year old!

She’s already worn it to preschool one day, though with a shirt underneath since we live in Michigan and the “soleil” has been sorely lacking.  It looked really cute like that as well, and would be an option for a little more modesty.  Speaking of, Lauren made sure to include a closed-back option for more coverage if the open back doesn’t work for you.

Arden especially liked the big, deep pockets.  And has already checked their carrying capacity by stuffing them completely full of magnetic letters.

So hop to it!  Go get your Soleil dress and use it and one of your hours of Kids Clothes Week Sewing to make one for your little (or big) girl!
