Matinée Pattern Release Tester Tour :: Day 3

It’s Day 3 of the testers’ pattern tour for the Matinée release.  Today I’d like to take the opportunity to share how this design evolved.
The first time you would have seen the Matinée Dress was when I was competing in Sew-Vivor on Family Ever After.  The challenge was simply “Emerald”, which left the door wide open to do whatever I wanted. I had sketched this little dress out and chose that opportunity to bring it to life.  This taffeta with lace overlay was however, not the first dress I made…
I had started with this dress using this great dotty ombre fabric from V and Co.’s Simply Color line for Moda.  I loved playing with the placement of the dots on the skirt and bodice, and used the strip of solid green included on the panel as the sash.  Early on I realized this wasn’t reading emerald enough for me to be comfortable submitting it for the competition, so I finished it up and switched gears to the other fabrics.  This dress got to come out to play as a guest post on Project Run & Play for their Sewing Friends series.

Then last fall I decided to grade the pattern down to fit Hadley and it was here that I started preparing in earnest to turn this design into a sewing pattern.  On this dress I added the cap sleeves and hem band which are part of the final pattern.  I love all the options to truly customize the dress or top to suit your individual tastes!

You can purchase through my Etsy shop at Jennuine Design.  Use the code MATINEE20 at checkout to receive a 20% discount through Friday to celebrate the release!

The pattern is also available on Craftsy.  This listing is at the discounted rate as Craftsy doesn’t have coupon or discount capabilities.

Bring on the testers you ask?  Allrighty!

Shelly of Giggles and Beans made this great version with a hem band and cap sleeves using a cute floral print and polka dot sash and hem band.  Shelly has generously offered a 10% discount to her shop So Tweet Fabrics through Monday with the code HOORAYFORMATINEE.  How cool is that?!

Ayelet of The Graceful Rose tested the largest size – size 8, and the optional cap sleeves with this gorgeous Amy Butler fabric which I believe is from the Love line.  Ayelet was so accommodating; she put on a whole new skirt after I had inadvertently posted incorrect skirt dimensions resulting in a much too narrow skirt.  I love how the dress works for the more grown up girls!

Sara of Made by Sara added piping to her sash which is a really cool detail!  She also made some mad magic pattern matching of those giant polka dots across the side seams – you have to go see more pictures!  I love these shots she took in a field of yellow flowers – so lovely!

I truly love the dress just a pity it does not go up to a size 12, it is a pretty pre teen dress, how easy would it be to grade the pattern larger? I love the green polka dots dress, a job well done!
