Fun Tee… Dress

Have you heard about the new designer Sew by Pattern Pieces?  I made up a couple versions of Lauren’s first pattern, the #21100 Fun Tee and it’s amazing!

Lauren may be new to the independent designer world, but she has loads of industry experience.  With that comes a lot of lovely details like great fit, notches in all the appropriate spots, and tips for construction to efficiently lead from one step to the next.

Hadley still prefers dresses over shirts, and with pockets is even better.  So I made a mashup and created this number.

First let me explain a little mistake I made: the pattern comes with four sleeve options – short sleeve, long sleeve, gathered short sleeve, and a combination sleeve with a gathered top and long sleeves.  I was trying to make the gathered top and long sleeves, but I accidentally cut the fitted short sleeve.  It worked great aside from that it made my overall sleeve length quite long since the top part was meant to be on its own and is longer than the combination sleeve.

To make the dress, I marked a line (I think it was 6″?) equal distance from the bottom of each armscye.  I only had a fat half of this fabric from a discount lot I bought a while back, so I had to use every. single. inch.  This is where being able to whip up a pdf design comes in handy.  After cutting the bodice and sleeve I measured what I had left and drew up a simple a-line skirt to fit the bodice.  I used the pocket from the Mini Hudson Pants pattern, just rotating the pieces to meet the top and side of my drafted skirt.  Because I had to be so conservative on fabric I wasn’t able to match up the owl pattern, so no comments there mkay?

And Hadley?  I think she likes it!  I’ve also made Arden a shirt, so as soon as I get photos of her I’ll talk about that one.  And I cut the intended sleeve for that one!

FUN TEE . . . cute & unique OWL repeat design in black & white for your girl’s dress worn with black leggings. In STYLE all the way! On my monitor it looks like REALLY pale green with black, but I thought maybe it was white with black. Little girls like pockets, so you added this from another pattern. THANKS for sharing. Certainly she’ll get lots of compliments! Sarah in Minneapolis
