Brook Blossom Skirt 1

The Girls Brook Blossom Skirt is for girls’ sizes 2 – 20.  This translates to cover waist dimensions from 21 to 33.5 inches, which is a huge size range!  Arden measured about a 6x with 7 length, so I went ahead and made a straight 7 since the elastic in the back would compensate for the small difference.

On that elastic in the back, the skirt is constructed in a really unique way so that the elastic casing is hidden within the back yoke.  There’s 1″ wide elastic at the top back edge of the skirt, but it looks more like a wide waistband with this method.  Very cool, and not at all difficult to sew.

The pattern has options for knee, high-low, or maxi lengths.  When I showed Arden the line drawings, she immediately and excitedly pointed to the high-low and that was that.

The pattern has trimless printing; you select either letter or A4 printing guides and just overlap the pages.  It also has layers so you print only the sizes you need.  Additionally, Jill gives a comprehensive printing guide by size and option so you only print the pages you need.  That is a huge deal since with all the different options there are 61 pages of pattern pieces.  This skirt only required 20 pages using the guide.

The fabric is lovely cotton voile from Mood Fabrics* (referral link) that I got about a month ago while meeting up with Becca from Free Notion.  I let each of the girls choose a fabric and Arden pulled the bolt of this fabric out and said she wanted a skirt.  I think this was precisely what she had in mind!  I bought three yards because I really liked it for myself as well.

Arden had one of her best modeling sessions ever – she really liked how the breeze would catch the lightweight skirt and blow the longer back like a train on a dress.  My Calla Lily Crop Top looks really nice with this skirt, but I don’t have one made that matched so I just styled it with a RTW tank top from Old Navy.
