Five Years Ago Today…

I haven’t shared our story, so here goes:
I first met Dave at a summer party put together by a couple of my friends.  I was dating a guy who was part of that circle of friends from work.  The day of the party I had run a twelve hour adventure race (running/canoeing/mt. biking through the wilderness using a compass to navigate with a couple of ropes challenges and mud holes thrown in for good measure) and had barely gotten home and all the mud washed off when my boyfriend called and told me to hurry over to the party.  I wasn’t too excited to leave the sofa and my ice pack, but I dragged myself over.
Dont’cha love the goatee??  I thought he looked like Ryan Reynolds at the time…
I was pretty content to just hang out in the pavillion at the park where the party was set and talk to various people.  One of them was really interested in hearing about the adventure race because he was into hiking and had started running fairly seriously, having completed his first half marathon recently.  That was Dave.  We spent most of the evening talking while my boyfriend whooped it up with everyone else.
The boyfriend and I lasted a few more weeks before I decided it wasn’t going to work out.  At that point I talked to one of my friends who had put on the party and asked her if she knew this Dave who was a physicist at another local company.  She didn’t know who I was talking about.
Fast forward a year and a half, which really was sort of a whirlwind time in my life.  I was working as an internal auditor and traveling all over the world on three week trips to audit different functions in my company.  I had met a guy through internet dating and we’d gone out a couple of times and we met up with some friends at a local bar.  I knew some other people there and was talking to one of them and at the table was Dave.  He asked if I remembered hime and I said I did.  He asked me out for coffee and I said “yes”.  We went out for coffee a few days later, which turned into dinner, and then drinks.  It also happened to be Valentine’s Day which was completely unplanned; I had a trip to India coming up and didn’t have much time.  I broke things off with the guy I was seeing, went on my trip to India where we talked on the phone a few times and we began dating when I returned.
Oh, and the friends that put on the party?  If I had asked the OTHER friend, she knew exactly who Dave was.  Doh!!
So that’s our story in a nutshell.  Who knew that five years later we’d have two adorable little girls, two insane labradors, and three nutball cats?
