10 Great Ways to Use Your Precious Fabric

I know you have some.  That bit of fabric that’s not large enough for a project, but you just can’t bear to part with it.

Is it Liberty of London?  Remnants of a favorite childhood dress?  Vintage sheets?  Don’t worry, I have some too, so I thought I’d round up some ways to do that amazing fabric justice and came up with 10 (well, sorta 11) Great Ways to Use Your Precious Fabric:

Unless you’ve just begun following sewing blogs or have had zero internet connection lately, you’ve seen the Pattern Anthology‘s Just Add Jeans Collection.  The Parisian Top modeled here by Alexia of Lexi Made is a perfect way to highlight a favorite woven on a comfy knit shirt.  I bought the collection during the presale, and I have some knit jersey from Girl Charlee and Liberty of London Tana lawn that I think would look smashing together.

Don’t have quite enough for an adult collar?  A children’s collar, especially like this one on the Hanami Top by Straight Grain and sewn by Tasha at I Seam Stressed would showcase a narrow strip in grand fashion.  Have a little more?  Then use it for the body of the top.  Psst!  Tasha is having a handmade sale on Instagram at the end of April and this top will be in the lineup.  Follow along @ishopstressed and @iseamstressed.

Patchwork makes a great environment for some select fabrics.  Here Natalie of La gang à Nat recovered her bar stools in a lovely patchwork.

Ros at Sew Delicious made a series of patchwork accessories and among them is this cute zippered pouch.  Check out the rest – I love her fabrics!

Love hexis?  Don’t have time to make a Grandmother’s flower garden quilt and then hand quilt it to do those lovely geometric gems justice (couldn’t resist!).  This hexi project by Caila Made is the perfect intro to hexis and you get a cute clutch purse to boot!

For all my love of the Bimaa Sweater, I have yet to make the hoodie option.  This modification by Sarah at EmmylouBeeDoo, the blog behind LouBeeClothing adds cute little ears to the hoodie and is another spot to place some precious textile.

Do your kids love to host pretend tea parties like my girls?  If they do, then these adorable fabric tea bags by Heidi at Handmade Frenzy should be on the top of your to-do list.  Why not use some scraps from clothing you’ve made for your littles to make them extra special?

Pockets in a great contrasting fabric are fun way to add an easy detail to a simple top.  Renee at Nearest the Pin showcases her pocket addition to the Plantain Tank.

These embellished hand towels by Hayley at Welcome to the Mouse House would make a great gift in addition to displaying a favorite fabric.

Pattern Runway shows several variations to use bias binding along a neckline.  You could also do this along a waistband, or other seam binding.

Vanessa at {LBGstudio} has a great tutorial to make a patchwork camera strap cover with a pocket for the lens cap.  I need to make one of these because I am always searching my pockets for the lens cap!

Do you have any great projects to showcase your precious fabrics?
