Uptown/Downtown Dress for Me!

I meant to share my Uptown/Downtown Dress on Friday, but things got a little busy so here we are!

MOMiform Makeover 1

The Women’s Uptown/Downtown Dress by Sew Straight & Gather has sooo many options.  This is the cowl neck, long sleeve dress length.  There are three necklines – high, medium and low, plus the cowl neck.  There are five sleeve options – tank, sleeveless, short, half, and long sleeve.  Dress length and maxi length, plus a pocket!

This pattern, as with the other Sew Straight & Gather patterns I’ve sewn is clearly laid out.  I particularly enjoyed how Terri made sure it was clear which cutting line was needed for the different options, and how to cut away the flare for the dress length if you were cutting a maxi.

The fabric is a textured knit from Michael Levine and I wasn’t sure if it would work for this dress at first since it’s fairly thick – almost like scuba knit.  It ended up working out really well and is nice and drapey and warm.  I really love cowls and shawl collars for fall and winter.  I feel like it helps minimize my broad shoulders a bit.

I have more of this fabric and I’m really tempted to make Arden a matching dress with the girl’s Uptown/Downtown Dress.  She’s still able to wear the one I made her, but it will be passing on to Hadley before I know it.

MOMiform Makeover 2

This was my “going out” look, and I already put it to the test for a local Mom’s night out on Friday.  The best part?  One of the ladies at the event commented on my dress, saying that I wore such stylish and unique outfits. Of course I had to tell them that I had made my dress!
