Miss Polly Dress :: Pattern Tour

G’day!  Today’s my stop on the Sewpony Vintage Miss Polly Dress pattern tour!  Suz is an Australian designer, so I thought a little Aussie greeting was in order 😉  Take 15% off Miss Polly and the rest of the Sewpony Vintage patterns with code MISSPOLLY15 through April 15.

MISS POLLY Options

Miss Polly has many cohesive options for girls sized 12 months to 10 years.  The deep apron pocket is every tiny hoarder’s dream (or is that only my girls?) and there are options from sleeveless, cap sleeve and long sleeve as well as cute shoulder flaps with decorative buttons.  An invisible zip at the back closes the dress.

I chose to make a Miss Polly for Hadley, though both girls are in pretty much the same size right now.  The more juvenile print of the fine wale corduroy seemed appropriate for my gigantic four year old.  This is the sleeveless View A with shoulder tabs omitted since the print was so busy.  I love the vintage shape of the dress!  It will be perfect for spring and how cute will this be layered over a red long sleeved tee next fall?

We’re on vacation in Florida, so we had some fun at a friend’s house across the canal from my parents.  This was the best shot I had of the back with all of Hadley’s twirling and spinning.  I goofed up at the top of my zip by trimming the top of the tape too short before finishing the corners of the bodice, so I had to curve the top edges to enclose it properly.  This was all me; not a fault of the pattern.  It doesn’t show here, and I’m choosing to call it a design feature!

Instead of piping, I inserted a mini pom-pom trim at the bottom of the front yoke.  I love the different texture it adds to the dress.  The corduroy is Mouse Camp by Winham Fabrics, and the red is Color and Count also by Windham Fabrics.

Miss Polly pattern layout

Suz has a lovely layout on her patterns – appropriate markings and labels are there, with notations to help avoid any possible confusion.  The sizes are differentiated with color and with different strokes in case you print in black and white like I do.  Check out the seam allowance clearly stated along with the size key.  The hem is nicely squared so it sews smoothly.
