LOL Swing Top Pattern Tester Tour :: Day 5

Thank you so much for giving the LOL Swing Top pattern a very warm welcome yesterday for it’s debut!  I had my fingers and toes crossed that you’d all love it as much as I did, and it looks like my wishes came true!

Swing Top 2

I’d like to share why I decided to call this the LOL Swing Top.  I made the very first version of the top last year during the July Kids Clothes Week.  The fabric I used was a very cute Liberty of London Tana lawn with Hello Kittys all over.   Liberty is such a nice airy, but still substantial fabric and it’s perfect for this silhouette.

So Liberty of London, or Love of Liberty = LOL.  I tried to fight against the name the pattern chose for itself, but in the end I decided it had always been, and should remain, the LOL Swing Top.

Enough of me waxing poetic about garments choosing their own names.  You’re here to see more of the tester tour, right?  Well, I aim to please, so here we go!

My Sweet Sunshine

Alexis who writes at My Sweet Sunshine made a classic chambray version.  I love the pairing with April Rhodes’ Arizona prints from Art Gallery fabric.  I need to get my hands on some of those fabrics!  Check out the details here.

La Folie

Inês of La Folie is a new sew-y, blogg-y friend of mine and she made up this sophisticated navy pin dot LOL for her daughter.  I love how the choice of fabrics can quickly take this top from playful to mature.  Read more about her experience here.

Lady & the Gents

Emily of Lady and the Gents truly gave a teaser photo with this cute shot of her little girl peeking about!  This woven version shows the optional bias bound hem as a fun design feature (or for those who detest hemming – your choice!)  Read more about it here.

Jessica Bustos

Jessica is another fellow Pattern Workshop student and she just released her Two Haute shorts pattern under her Lil Luxe Collection by Jessica Bustos label – be sure to check them out while you’re reading her evaluation of the LOL as part of the tour.  It’s nice having a range of testers from newer sewists all the way up to designers as each person brings a different perspective to the group.  Let’s see what Jessica has to say here.

We have one more day of the tour left!  Did you notice that we added a couple more stops?  I had a few flash testers at the end to make up tops with a quick turnaround to get the last couple of sizes spot on and a couple of them wanted to participate in the tour.  Of course – join the fun, ladies!

Loved testing this pattern. Only regret I was so short on time this past month and wasn’t able to go the extra mile for you. Thanks a million for having me! FYI loved the story behind the name. Your first version is beautiful!!!
